Diwali falls on 8 November 2026 and Dhanteras on 6 November. If your festive marketing has not started yet, this day-by-day plan shows what still works in the final week.

Quick answer

Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) falls on Sunday, 8 November 2026 and Dhanteras on Friday, 6 November. With a week left, skip big new campaigns and focus on the places festive shoppers check right before they buy: your Google Business Profile (festive hours and an Offer post), WhatsApp (catalog plus one clear message to customers who saved your number), and two or three short videos that show the product and how fast they can get it. Then follow up after the festival for reviews and repeat orders.

If your Diwali plan is still "we will post something", you are not too late. Small businesses usually lose final-week sales for simple reasons: wrong hours on Google, no easy way to order on WhatsApp, and offers nobody can find. This plan needs a phone and a few hours a day, and suits shops, sweet makers, salons, restaurants and gifting businesses.

What are the Diwali 2026 dates you should plan around?

According to the Drik Panchang 2026 Diwali calendar (New Delhi), the festival days are:

  • Friday, 6 November: Dhanteras (Dhantrayodashi)
  • Saturday, 7 November: Kali Chaudas
  • Sunday, 8 November: Lakshmi Puja, Diwali
  • Tuesday, 10 November: Govardhan Puja, Annakut, Gujarati New Year
  • Wednesday, 11 November: Bhai Dooj

Local panchangs can differ by city, so confirm with the calendar your customers follow. Dhanteras and the two days before Lakshmi Puja are usually the busiest buying windows.

What are festive shoppers doing in this final week?

In a Google India write-up, of a Google-commissioned Ipsos study of 2025 Navratri and Diwali shoppers, people research for weeks early in the season, then buy quickly close to the festival. Findings that matter for the last week:

  • 90% of shoppers said delivery within two days is non-negotiable, and 81% chose their retailer based on delivery speed.
  • 61% of shoppers who bought within a couple of days without prior research used YouTube Shorts along the way.
  • 73% said they look to online creators for inspiration.
  • 7 in 10 shoppers who spot a product on social feeds go to Google Search to check it further.

These are survey figures for online shoppers, not a promise for your business, but the direction is clear: people want to see the product, check you on Google and know how fast they can get it.

Day 1 to 2: fix what customers check right before they buy

Google Business Profile hours. Many shops stay open late before Diwali and close on the festival day or the day after. Google lets you set special hours for holidays without changing your regular hours, for up to 6 days in a row. Google also suggests confirming hours for official holidays even if they stay the same, so customers know the hours are accurate. Add every changed date from Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj now.

An Offer post. Business Profile Offer posts need a title, start and end dates and times, and automatically show a "View Offer" button. You can add a photo, coupon code, link and terms, and schedule the post in advance. One honest offer with clear dates ("Gift boxes from Rs 499, order by 7 November for home delivery") beats a vague "Diwali sale". Posts are reviewed by Google, so keep the text clean and professional.

If your profile needs more work than hours and posts, our Google Business Profile optimization guide covers the basics.

Day 2 to 3: make ordering on WhatsApp easy

For a small business in India, WhatsApp is often where the festive order actually happens. Two features in the free WhatsApp Business app help most:

  1. Catalog. From the Tools tab you can add items to your catalog with up to 10 photos or videos each, a price, sale price and description. Add your Diwali hampers, gift boxes or festive packages as separate items so customers can pick one and ask for it in the chat.
  2. Broadcast lists. A broadcast list sends one message to many contacts privately, up to 256 contacts per list. Only contacts who have saved your number in their phone receive it, so this is for existing customers, not cold numbers. In some countries a monthly broadcast limit is rolling out, so send one good message, not five.

The newer business broadcasts add a photo and an action button (catalog, call, website or quick reply). Meta reviews them before sending, and a fee may apply.

Keep the message short: what is on offer, the last order date for festival delivery, and one button or link. If you plan to use WhatsApp at a larger scale after Diwali, read our guide to WhatsApp Business Platform opt-ins and templates.

Day 3 to 5: three short videos, not thirty posts

Given how many quick buyers watch short videos before they decide, put your remaining effort into two or three vertical videos of 15 to 30 seconds each:

  • The product in hand. Open the gift box, show the sweets being packed, show the finished nails or the decorated room. Real footage from your shop works better than stock clips.
  • How to order and how fast. "WhatsApp us by 7 PM, delivered the same day within the city" if that is true for you. Delivery speed is exactly what the final-week shopper is checking.
  • Your festive hours and location. Short, with the shop front visible, so people recognise you when they arrive.

Post the same videos as Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and WhatsApp Status. Our Instagram Reels strategy guide has more on hooks and formats.

Working with a local creator? If you give anything of value (payment, free products, a discount), India's advertising self-regulator ASCI says in its influencer advertising guidelines that the post must carry a disclosure label. Agree on the label before the creator shoots.

Dhanteras to Diwali: run the shop, keep marketing light

From 6 to 8 November your time goes to customers in the shop. Plan just three things:

  • Reply to WhatsApp and Instagram messages at fixed times (for example 11 AM, 3 PM and 7 PM) so no enquiry waits all day.
  • Post one short Story or Status each morning with what is still available and today's hours.
  • Update your Google hours again if anything changes.

After Diwali: reviews and repeat customers

The days after the festival are when most businesses go quiet, which is why they work well for you:

  • Send a thank-you message to festive customers with a request for a Google review. Our guide to Google reviews and reputation explains how to ask without breaking Google's rules.
  • Note which products sold out and which did not. That is next year's plan.

A one-page Diwali checklist

  • Special hours added on Google for every changed date from 6 to 11 November
  • One Offer post on Google Business Profile with dates and terms
  • WhatsApp catalog updated with festive items and prices
  • One broadcast message to existing customers with a last order date
  • Two or three short videos posted as Reels, Shorts and Status
  • Fixed reply times during the festival days
  • Thank-you and review request sent after Bhai Dooj
