How Jodhpur handicraft exporters can win international buyers online

Overseas buyers now shortlist suppliers online before they visit a fair or ask for samples. This plan shows Jodhpur handicraft and furniture exporters how to build a website and lead system that wins those enquiries.

Quick answer

Build a catalogue website that answers an importer's questions before the first email: product ranges with real photos, materials and finishes, MOQ, lead times, packing, certifications and the markets you already ship to. Put each language or market on its own URL, mark up product pages so Google understands them, and use trade fairs and your own enquiry follow-up to turn visits into sample orders. Keep your factory and compliance details honest and easy to find.

Jodhpur's export houses in Basni, Boranada and nearby industrial areas make furniture, woodware, metal decor and textiles for buyers abroad. Many still win most business through agents, fairs and old relationships. Those channels work, but the first look at a new supplier now usually happens on a screen, long before anyone books a flight. This guide is for manufacturers and merchant exporters who want more direct enquiries from importers, retailers, designers and hospitality buyers.

Why does an online presence matter more for exporters now?

Two reasons: the market is moving, and buyers are spreading their sourcing.

According to the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), India's handicraft exports (other than hand-knotted carpets) reached ₹33,168.48 crore in 2025-26, based on DGCI&S data. The same page shows woodware exports falling from ₹8,524.74 crore in 2024-25 to ₹7,160.96 crore in 2025-26, and woodware exports to the USA falling from ₹4,095.02 crore to ₹3,056.44 crore in the same period.

The trend then turned. IBEF's handicrafts page, citing EPCH, reports that handicraft exports rose 21.07% in rupee terms during April to August 2026-27, to ₹16,910.90 crore.

The lesson: depending on one market or one agent is risky. EPCH's 2025-26 woodware figures also show sizeable markets in Germany (₹708 crore), the Netherlands (₹617.1 crore), the UK (₹437.9 crore) and France (₹365.37 crore). Buyers there find suppliers through search, fair directories and referrals, and they check your website before they reply.

What does an international buyer look for on your website?

An importer is judging whether you can deliver a container on time, at the agreed quality, without customs problems. Your website should answer these questions before the first call:

  • Product range: clear collections (for example sheesham furniture, mango wood, iron and wood, reclaimed wood, decor and gifts) with real photos of your own products, not stock images.
  • Specifications: materials, finishes, sizes, weight and whether you take custom designs or private label work.
  • Commercial basics: MOQ, sample policy, lead time and shipping ports. Prices can stay on request.
  • Capacity and process: your workshop, quality checks, and how you handle drying, moisture and packing for long sea journeys.
  • Compliance: your Importer-Exporter Code (IEC) is mandatory for exporting from India according to the DGFT, plus any certifications or audits you genuinely hold. Only list what you can show on request.
  • Contact: a short enquiry form, a business email on your own domain, WhatsApp and your time zone.

If a buyer would ask it in the first email, it belongs on the site. Our guide on writing pages that answer buyer questions shows how to structure these pages.

How should you structure a catalogue website for export SEO?

One page per collection and per product family. A buyer searching "sheesham wood dining table manufacturer India" should land on a page about exactly that, with a clear heading, specifications, photos and an enquiry button.

Product markup. Google's product structured data guide recommends product snippets for pages where people cannot buy directly, which fits most B2B catalogue pages. Our structured data guide covers how to add it.

Images that load fast and get found. Large galleries make export sites slow. Compress and size images and write descriptive file names and alt text. See image SEO, alt text and responsive images.

Separate URLs for languages and markets. If you add German, French or Spanish pages, Google's guidance on multi-regional and multilingual sites recommends different URLs for each language version rather than switching language with cookies or browser settings, and using hreflang annotations to point searchers to the right version. Start with English, then add one language where you already have traction.

How can you get ready for EU buyers' compliance questions?

For wood products sold to Europe, compliance is now part of marketing. The European Commission's page on the Regulation on deforestation-free products (EUDR) says operators and traders placing covered commodities, including wood and derived products such as furniture, on the EU market must be able to prove the products do not come from recently deforested land or contribute to forest degradation.

The same page gives the dates: the rules apply from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators, and from 30 June 2027 for micro and small operators (30 December 2026 for those already covered by the EU Timber Regulation).

Your importer carries the legal duty but will ask where your timber comes from. A clear "Materials and sourcing" page listing your wood species and the documents you can provide makes you an easier supplier to choose. Never claim certifications you do not hold.

How do trade fairs and your website work together?

Fairs remain a big source of export business. The 63rd IHGF Delhi Fair (Spring) 2027 is scheduled for 15 to 19 March 2027 at India Expo Centre and Mart, Greater Noida, as a B2B fair. Buyers meet hundreds of suppliers there and compare them online afterwards. Use your website to stretch every visit:

  1. Before: publish your new collection and email past buyers the link with your stall number.
  2. During: put a QR code on your stall and catalogue that opens the matching collection page.
  3. After: follow up with every contact within 48 hours with the products they viewed, MOQ and sample terms.

How do you turn enquiries into sample orders?

  • Reply to every enquiry within one working day in the buyer's time zone, even just to confirm a quote is coming.
  • Ask the qualifying questions early: target price range, quantity, destination port, timeline and whether they need custom work.
  • Keep every lead in one place (a simple CRM or a shared sheet) with the next step and date.
  • Follow up with a short factory video, packing photos or a line sheet for the collection they asked about.

Our lead follow-up playbook explains how to set this up without heavy software.

Frequently asked questions

Do handicraft exporters really need a website if they sell through agents?

Yes. Agents and importers usually check a supplier's website before recommending you, and a clear catalogue site brings direct enquiries without depending on one channel.

Should an export website show prices?

Most B2B exporters keep prices on request because they depend on quantity, finish and destination. Show MOQ, sample terms, lead times and shipping ports instead.

How many languages should an export website have?

Start with English. Add a language only when you can keep those pages accurate and you have a market for it. Google recommends a separate URL for each language version with hreflang annotations.

What is the EUDR and does it affect Jodhpur furniture exporters?

It is the EU rule requiring operators and traders placing wood products such as furniture on the EU market to prove they are deforestation-free. It applies from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators and 30 June 2027 for most micro and small ones, so EU buyers will ask suppliers for sourcing information.

How soon can a new export website bring enquiries?

Fair follow-ups and existing contacts can use it right away. Search traffic usually builds over months as Google indexes your product pages.
