Instagram marketing for Jodhpur cafes and restaurants: what to post every week

Most cafe and restaurant accounts in Jodhpur post when they remember. This weekly plan tells you what to share each day, why it works with how Instagram ranks content, and how to turn views into visits.

Quick answer

Post three to four times a week and share stories every day. Make two of those posts short, original reels shot in your own cafe (a dish being made, a table with the view, a regular's order), one a carousel with your menu or a weekly special, and one a collab post with a local creator, supplier or event. Tag your location on every post, keep your bio and Google Business Profile pointing to the same booking or WhatsApp link, and check which posts led to messages and visits, not just likes.

Jodhpur's food scene photographs well: rooftop cafes facing Mehrangarh, old-city sweet shops, pyaaz kachori counters and newer cafes in Ratanada and Shastri Nagar. Tourists and locals often check Instagram before choosing where to eat.

The usual problem is not a lack of good food to show. It is posting without a plan, then going quiet for two weeks. Here is a weekly rhythm built on what Instagram itself says about ranking.

How does Instagram decide who sees your cafe's posts?

In its ranking explainer, Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri writes that Feed, Stories, Explore and Reels each use their own ranking. Four points matter for a restaurant:

  • Reels reach people who do not follow you yet. Instagram says most of what people see in Reels comes from accounts they do not follow. The most important predictions are whether someone will reshare a reel, watch it all the way through, like it, and open the audio page.
  • Some reels are shown less. The same page lists low-resolution or watermarked reels, muted reels, reels with borders, reels that are mostly text and reels already posted on Instagram as content it makes less visible.
  • Stories favour people who already know you. Stories are ranked from accounts people follow, using viewing history, engagement history and closeness. That makes stories the place to talk to regulars.
  • Location is a signal. In Feed, Instagram lists information about the post, including what location, if any, was attached to it.

In April 2024 Instagram also said that every eligible piece of original content is first shown to a small audience that it thinks will enjoy it, then to wider groups if it performs well, and that copies of other people's content are replaced by the original in recommendations. So an original reel shot in your own kitchen gets a fair test, even with a few hundred followers.

What should a Jodhpur cafe post each week?

One person can run this in about two hours a week, shooting on a phone during quiet hours.

  • Monday, story: the week's special, a poll on two new dishes, opening hours.
  • Tuesday, reel: a dish being made, start to finish, 15 to 30 seconds.
  • Wednesday, story: behind the counter: deliveries, prep, the team.
  • Thursday, carousel: menu page, weekend special or a "what to order" guide.
  • Friday, reel: the table experience: the view, the sunset, the first bite.
  • Saturday, stories: live moments from the weekend, reshared customer stories.
  • Sunday, collab post or reel: with a local creator, supplier or nearby shop.

If you can only manage less, keep the two reels and the daily stories: reels bring new people in, stories keep regulars coming back.

What makes a restaurant reel work?

Instagram predicts whether people will watch a reel to the end, so the opening matters most.

  • Open on the food, not the logo. Steam coming off a kachori, chai being poured, cheese pulled from a sandwich.
  • Use real sound. The sizzle of a tawa or the clink of glasses is more original than a trending song played over still photos. If you add music, keep the original audio underneath.
  • Shoot vertical and in good light. A window table in the late afternoon beats a dim corner. Do not reuse a reel that already has another app's watermark on it.
  • Show the place, not just the plate. For a rooftop cafe, the fort view at golden hour; for a sweet shop, the queue at the counter.

To test a new idea without filling your followers' feeds, Instagram offers trial reels, launched in December 2024. A trial reel is shown to non-followers first; about 24 hours later you can see views, likes, comments and shares, then choose to share it with everyone. Use it to try a new format, such as a Hindi voiceover.

How do collab posts help a small restaurant?

With collab posts, Instagram's help centre explains, you invite another account as a collaborator; if they accept, the post shows on their profile and in their followers' feed too, with both names in the header.

For a Jodhpur cafe, good collaborators are:

  • Local food and travel creators who have actually eaten with you.
  • Your suppliers, such as a local bakery, dairy or coffee roaster.
  • Nearby homestays and havelis whose guests ask where to eat.

If a creator was paid or given a free meal, say so clearly, for example with Instagram's paid partnership label.

Can your Instagram posts show up on Google?

Yes, under certain conditions. Instagram's help page on search engine indexing says it allows search engines to index photos and videos from public reels and posts uploaded from January 1, 2020 onwards, from accounts that are public, professional and held by someone over 18. So switch your cafe account to a professional account, keep it public and write captions that say what and where: "Pyaaz kachori and masala chai, Sardarpura, Jodhpur" is more useful than "Monday mood".

Instagram is only half of local discovery, though. Google's Business Profile guide for restaurants covers uploading photos of your interior, exterior and dining experience, managing your menu with dishes and prices, creating posts for offers and events, and replying to reviews. Our post on getting more customers from Google Maps in Jodhpur covers the Maps side step by step.

How do you turn views into bookings?

Views are nice; tables are the goal.

  1. One clear action in the bio. A WhatsApp link, a table booking link or your delivery app page, not five links. See our Instagram bio guide for local businesses.
  2. Reply to DMs fast. Save quick replies for timings, location and menu.
  3. Pin three posts. Your menu, your location and directions, and your best reel.
  4. Ask every visitor once. A small table card with your handle and a request to tag you brings customer stories you can reshare.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a cafe post on Instagram?

Three to four posts or reels a week plus daily stories is realistic for a small team. A rhythm you can keep for months beats a burst of daily posts.

Are reels better than photos for restaurants?

They do different jobs. Reels reach new people, carousels suit menus and specials, and stories keep regulars engaged.

Should a restaurant use trending audio?

Use it when it fits, but do not rely on it. Original kitchen sound is distinctive, and Instagram favours original content over copies.

Do Instagram posts help a restaurant rank on Google?

Public posts from professional accounts can be indexed, so clear captions help. For Google Maps, your Business Profile matters more.

Should we work with food influencers in Jodhpur?

Yes, if they have a real local audience and have actually eaten with you. Use collab posts, and disclose any paid or free-meal partnership.
